Donald Thompson

Team Owner

Donald Thompson is the owner of the High Country Grizzlies. A successful entrepreneur and businessman, Thompson has over two decades of successful experience in building world-class winning teams. The strategies, team mindset, and work ethic associated with American football have influenced his life personally and professionally, and many of the core methodologies translate to the boardroom, where Thompson excels.

Being the son of a Division I college football coach allowed Thompson a behind the scenes perspective on the characteristics and commitments required to build winning programs. The experience watching his father and his experience as a scholarship athlete at East Carolina University fueled a fire to one day own a professional team. Being the owner of the Grizzlies is a dream come true for the entire Thompson family and allows them to blend business with the sport they love.

Thompson built his career leading technology firms, and most recently has developed a consulting practice that combines business advisory services with angel investing. He maintains a personal philosophy of ‘continuous improvement,’ which is an approach to success he communicates and reinforces among his teams and imparts that same perspective and growth mantra to his football club.

Team Owner

Bryan Bouboulis, co-owner of the Grizzlies, came to Boone in 1988 to play football for Appalachian State University. He played one year for Coach Sparky Woods and then finished his football career as an outside linebacker for Coach Jerry Moore. Having earned a Bachelors of Science degree in Business Administration, Bouboulis spent nine years working retail management for large corporations.

He later returned to Appalachian State to earn his Masters in Business Administration with a concentration in finance. After graduating, he married his wife Dorinda, and they started multiple entrepreneurial ventures in the high country, which he headed for a decade while also serving as a lecturer in finance for the College of Business at Appalachian State University.  Looking for another challenge, Bouboulis served as a magistrate judge for Watauga County for two years before his alma mater offered him a full-time job as an educator in the finance department where he enjoys teaching students about money and how it can work for them.

Bouboulis was in search of another opportunity to get more deeply involved with the community and give back to the area that has given so much to him over the years. He and Dorinda and their three sons, William, Alexander, and Jonathan, are excited about being a part of this franchise in the High Country.
